On Wednesday 17th September 2008, the Year 10 and Senior division Grand Finals of the 2008 Schools’ Competition were held in The House of Assembly Chamber of Parliament House. The evening began with a welcome from Miss Chloe Fox MP, Member for Bright. This was then followed by a welcome from the Chairman of the Board of Debating SA, Mr Tony Houey.
The Year 10 division debate began at 6:30pm with Sacred Heart College Senior School as the Affirmative Team and Pembroke School as the Negative Team debating the topic “That Hollywood is a blot on society.” In the end the Sacred Heart College emerged victorious, having convinced the panel of five adjudicators that Hollywood is indeed a blot on society.
The Senior division debate began at 8:00pm with Adelaide High School on the Affirmative and Unley High School on the
Negative debating the topic “That courtship is a lost art.” Adelaide High School emerged victorious at the conclusion of the debate.
