Fallacies: Errors in reasoning
Being able to recognise poor thinking in one’s own debate as well as the arguments of the opposition is a key skill in debating. Through the identification of logical fallacies, participants will be armed with this key tool to call out poor thinking in their opposition’s argument. This knowledge set is also very useful for identifying manipulative persuasion techniques in the wider world.
What’s Your Evidence?
A crucial part of debating is ensuring that your arguments are substantiated by good, reliable and detailed evidence. In this seminar, we will guide you through the elements of what makes good evidence and how to structure your arguments to ensure a solid case.
Introduction to Rebuttal Seminar
Rebuttal is the refutation of an opposition’s arguments or the ‘come back’. Participants will work through the most effective techniques for rebuttal to ensure they are prepared to respond to an opposition’s case.
Supervision and Catering
Students will be supervised during break times between seminars. Catering is only provided in breaks where students are attending both seminars either side of the break.
